The Animals went in two by two.

Animals were on their best behaviour on Sunday 3rd October 2010 they went to church for their annual Animal Blessing Service at St John Vianney Church in Wantage

Led by Pollyanne the rescued donkey from Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary at Brightwell cum Sotwell, the assorted animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens  and a ferret ,all  listened quietly as Zoe Carter from the  National Animal Welfare Trust told of the work of the charity at their  rescue centre at  Trindledown Farm, Great Shefford

After the service,  always held on the first Sunday in October to mark the Feast of St Francis of Assisi and Animal Welfare Sunday, the well behaved animals enjoyed the chance to meet up over a shared bowl of water  carrots and dog biscuits.

Said one visitor who had made a special journey to Wantage from Milton Keynes    “ I am so glad  that I found details of this service - this is just wonderful to see so many people and their animals coming together for such a friendly church event”

Canon Peter Turbitt, the parish priest who led the service was delighted with the full church  turnout despite that morning’s torrential rain and gale force winds.

A collection of £176 was  made for  the local  National Animal Welfare Trust.
